Since it’s October, we figure it’s time to start giving some serious thought to a holiday relevant to our current month… Christmas!
Though it may seem an odd time to be bringing up Christmas when we haven’t even celebrated more imminent holidays, we are already in full-swing planning some fantastic events for this coming Christmas season. Chiefly, we are putting out the word for our two big holiday events: our Christmas play (we can’t tell you what it is, but we can say that it is a new look on a Christmas classic), and our very own Music of Christmas concert!
You may be wondering, “Hey, aren’t we a CHURCH? Why are we spending so much time and resource doing concerts and plays?” Here at The Sanctuary, impacting our community is in our DNA; it is what we attempt every day. These events are a huge in-road for us to do so. Last year’s Christmas play, It’s a Wonderful Life! drew over 1600 people in the span of six shows, and two years previous we had hundreds attend The Music of Christmas! For many, this may be their first positive Church experience, if not the first Church experience that they’ve ever had. In these events we are introducing people to a safe environment, through things we all love (like music, drama and entertainment). But believe it or not the key component to accomplishing that isn’t the actors or musicians… it’s you!
This year we want to double-up and bring even more people back into a Church environment, or again, invite them in for the first time. This is especially important during a time of year where people are focused on family and togetherness, for those who experience loneliness, and maybe even are thinking about Christmas in terms of Jesus for the first time in their lives.
Church, this year more than ever we need all the help we can get. These events are only possible because of you, our awesome congregation. In this, we need loads of help: from ushering, to set-up and tear-down, to stage management, to lighting and many other capacities.
One key role we need ahead of time is one that literally goes out to make an impact and to involve the SCV community. We are looking for a team of about 6 people to help us get local business sponsors to help get the word out for these events. If you are interested please sign up at our Welcome Center, in our Hospitality Room or email us, and we will be in touch with you.
