Hunter - 4.24.13
Although Heidi has never worked for a local church before The Sanctuary, she genuinely strives to use her administrative gifting within her church family…She loves and enjoys being around people, and always has a smile on her face! Heidi is from North Carolina and lived there until she moved to Southern California in 2002. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1999 with a B.A. in Industrial Relations. This southern belle is definitely no stranger to ministry – as her grandfather and father were both Foursquare pastors. Heidi has also worked at both Foursquare Bible Colleges (Life Bible College East – Christiansburg, VA and Life Pacific College – San Dimas, CA). Heidi met her husband, Dustin (also an east coast native) while on staff at Life Bible College East. Soon after she decided to move to California, he quickly followed her trek to the west. In 2004, they were married in Santa Clarita and decided to relocate from San Dimas, CA. Interestingly enough, they quickly found the closest Foursquare church to them was The Sanctuary, and have been attending ever since! They found the community they were longing for, and felt like they were finally home. The Conleys have a passion and love for worship as they both serve on Sundays on our worship teams. However, their newest passion and love is baby Hunter who arrived in Spring 2013.

Marty - 9.21.85

Children:

Amanda, Victoria, Isaac & Abigail
Debbie Walker is the beloved wife of our Senior Pastor, Marty Walker. She would be considered the “quiet one” of the two, although upon closer examination you would learn she has quite a sense of humor. Along with this quietness, is an inner strength that has been developed with years of marriage, many which have been spent partnering together in full-time ministry. She has, in quietness and strength, spent those same years raising their four beautiful children, Amanda, Victoria, Isaac and Abigail. They are truly her passion and joy. Though Debbie home-schooled all of their children to certain levels, with all but Abigail (who now attends Santa Clarita Christian School) now graduated, Debbie has more opportunities to partner with Pastor Marty in ministry. Since January 2002, she has been leading the women’s ministries at The Sanctuary, Girls Like Me. She has discovered a passion and desire to see women build relationships with one another and live out their faith “together” – not as “Lone Ranger” Christians. When she’s not with her two grandchildren or planning for the next Girls Like Me event, you might find her at Starbuck’s with a good friend sipping coffee and chatting… or just on the beach enjoying the beautiful ocean.

Cynthia Siler has a mind for numbers . . . and as our Treasurer, she uses that ability to serve our church family through accounting and bookkeeping. Cynthia was born in Pasadena, California and lived there until she was ten when she moved to Sacramento with her family. As the eldest of three children, her organizational skills were recognized at a young age. She always liked math, and friends and family encouraged her to pursue that natural ability. Upon graduation from High School, Cynthia attended American River College (Northern California) and then transferred to Pepperdine University (Malibu, CA) where she earned a B.S. in Business & Accounting. In addition to completing this degree, she also obtained a CPA license. Her skills would eventually lead her to find work in several companies including: Price Waterhouse (auditing & small business departments), Lear Siegler, Inc. (Finance Director) and IDC Services, Inc. (Controller – specializing in payroll services for the entertainment industry). Cynthia is happily married to her husband Rick, whom she met while attending the singles ministry at The Church on the Way (Van Nuys, California). After marrying in 1989, Cynthia moved to Santa Clarita, where Rick grew up, where they have lived ever since. Rick has been working as a fireman for over 20 years and is currently serving as a Fire Captain in Culver City. Together they have two children, Caroline and Brett. Rick & Cynthia came to The Sanctuary in 1994 because of a long-time friendship with the former pastors. Cynthia has served many roles at The Sanctuary including Sunday School Teacher’s Assistant, Bible Study Leader, Church Council Member and Women’s Ministry Council Member. In addition to her roles on staff and church, Cynthia is a home school & stay-at-home mom. She enjoys sewing, scrapbooking (when her busy schedule allows) and is a HUGE Dodger fan (the Siler’s third child is a 95-pound yellow lab named after Cynthia’s favorite team).

Rich – Married 6.27.87

Children:

Jake, Aaron & Luke
Growing up in Burbank, California, Lisa was surrounded by love of the arts and anything creative. Her family’s extensive traveling around the world was the seed of global perspective and love of travel that shapes her life now. Lisa first learned about God when a neighbor took her to church in the fourth grade. Yet, it wasn’t until the summer of her junior year in high school that she accepted Christ’s love and grace as her own. Since then she has been involved in children’s, youth, women’s and missions ministries. Currently she works with our UTURN youth ministry. In 1987, Lisa was married to her husband Rich. Rich works at a clinic in Lancaster as a nurse practitioner. He has a huge heart for missions, a love for solitude and the outdoors. They have two boys in college and one in high school. With their boys getting older, family time is much harder to come by. Yet, when they do all connect it is usually over good food, traveling, watching a movie or being outdoors. Lisa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and has worked as a freelance graphic artist for 25 years. She loves photography, bike riding, rollerblading, skiing and snowboarding. Kayaking has also become a favorite for her and Rich to do together.

Chloe & Ellyanna
Dawn was born and raised in “Small Town USA.” Growing up in Winters, California (west of Sacramento) had its advantages and unique opportunities, such as participating in FFA (Future Farmers of America) by raising a lamb for auction, going to school with the same kids Kindergarten through 12th grade, and living within walking distance of EVERYTHING! Moving to Southern California to go to college at the ripe-old age of 18 was certainly culture shock! While attending LIFE Pacific College (formerly L.I.F.E. Bible College, San Dimas, CA), Dawn met and married her husband, Jonathan (1995). She completed her degree in 1996, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Theology with a minor in Youth Ministry. She currently serves The Sanctuary family by coordinating the Our Family in Focus ministry which spotlights new Partners in the weekly Sunday Celebration Services bulletin. Dawn is also “shadow” to our very own Debbie Walker who oversees women’s ministries. She and Debbie have worked together since Girls Like Me’s inception in 2002. In addition to marriage and ministry, Dawn is also a proud home-schooling mom to her eldest daughter Chloe whose younger sister, Ellyanna, is not far behind. She has loved the privilege of teaching her children at home. When she and the girls do not have their noses in the books, you may find them at Starbucks or hanging with their girlfriends. Dawn also loves taking pictures and scrap booking them as a visual reminder of all God has done in her family’s life.

Betty Jean was born in Bishop, California and grew up on 40 acres just outside Independence, California. Her parents adopted two children as they were told they would not be able to have children of their own. Surprise! In their 40’s along came one of their own – Betty Jean! After graduating from Owens Valley High School, she attended Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) receiving a degree in Legal Secretarial Science and a certificate in floral design. Betty Jean then moved to Hollywood where she attended Bryan College of Court Reporting (Los Angeles) and began working for a Beverly Hills law firm. After two years of court reporting school she trained as a paralegal with that firm with hopes of becoming an attorney. During this time, Betty Jean met her husband, Mark, who took her to Hollywood Presbyterian Church for their first date. Though she decided not to pursue the law degree, she worked for the same law firm for 17 years as a paralegal and office manager. After the Northridge earthquake, Betty Jean retired from the field of law. Though she grew up in a Methodist church, Betty Jean stopped attending church during college. Of course, after meeting husband Mark, that all changed. After moving to the San Fernando Valley and attending a couple different churches over the years, the Donaldson’s visited a “new one.” On the recommendation of a youth pastor at the Northridge Foursquare Church, Betty Jean, Mark, and Liz paid a visit to The Sanctuary to meet this “awesome youth pastor” there, Pastor Marty. After more than three months of prayer, deliberation, and confirmation, the Donaldsons made The Sanctuary their home in September of 1992. Betty Jean began serving as the designer of the children’s classroom bulletin boards and has now served in various capacities including Nursery Worker, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, Women’s Ministry Leadership Team Member, Christmas Decorator, Wedding Coordinator, Church Council Member and Interim Children’s Ministry Director. Whew! This lady has done it all . . . including joining The Sanctuary staff in 2004 as Director of Children’s Ministries, assisting Pastor Julie as she leads children’s ministries.

In between missions, Tamara attended Calvary Chapel Bible College and then Vineyard Leadership Institute in California, graduating in 2002. Mike is a man who likes to see things done right! As the Facilities Custodian of The Sanctuary, it is his responsibility to make sure our campus and offices display our commitment to excellence in serving God and our community. Born in Santa Monica, California, Mike eventually found his way to the Santa Clarita Valley. During the early years of marriage, Mike worked as a carpenter with a private contractor. In 1991, he took the opportunity to work as a Senior General Maintenance Worker at The LA County Sheriff’s Department’s Peter Pitchess Detention Facility (Castaic, CA), where he served for 12 years! In late 2003, Mike made a significant life change, accepting the offer to join the team at The Sanctuary, bringing with him a vast experience and knowledge of carpentry, construction and maintenance. The decision was not tough, given that it would mean working at the church that he and his family had been calling “home” since 1998. In addition to making his career at The Sanctuary, Mike truly has a servant’s heart! He has served, and continues to serve, his church family in variety of ways, including leading in our UTURN youth ministries, building sets for productions presented by Between The Lines, our drama ministry, and just helping out wherever he is needed.

Buddy & Christine
Terry Simmons is a wonderful part of The Sanctuary staff. In July of 2004, Terry came aboard as a Facilities Assistant to aid our Custodian Mike Stevenson in the ever demanding task of maintaining our campus and office facilities. Prior to coming on staff, Terry worked in the tool/equipment rental department at Home Depot for nearly 11 years. His experience there along with a previous landscaping background makes Terry a valuable component of the day to day and weekly operations here at The Sanctuary. Terry was born in the San Fernando Valley and actually grew up in Pacoima like our very own Pastor Marty! Terry later ended up at a church in Santa Paula with his sister. At that church he met his sister’s best friend, Diana. Terry and Diana were married in October of 1983 and now have two children, Buddy and Christine. Diana works for a defense contractor management agency for the U.S. government. Terry and his family have been at The Sanctuary for over 20 years and remain so because Terry says, “The Word is preached and the fellowship is great.” In his spare time Terry loves to take an occasional camping trip and do a little fishing. Terry also says he enjoys his position here vastly. The staff, the hours, and the ability to serve are just some of the reasons he takes pleasure in being on staff here. Terry feels that God has equipped him well for this ministry by serving God and our congregation. Terry hopes to pursue and raise the standard of excellence in how we steward the beautiful facilities God has given us.
