The spirit of our Family in Focus is to introduce members of our community that you might not have much opportunity to know otherwise, and no one embodies this spirit and mission like Sharon Rahn.
Sharon, a born Hawaiian, grew up on the island of Oahu. In her twenties she accepted a job with Trans World Airlines and moved to California. She would go on to have a career in various financial institutions. She settled into retirement in 2011 and now lives in Northridge. Her son, Mark (43), a police officer with the Los Angeles School District, lives in a community nearby. A self-described “behind the scenes” kind of woman, Sharon has been part of our congregation for three years. She learned of us through our partnership with ZOE International where she volunteers in various administration roles.
In her free time Sharon enjoys reading and raising vegetables in her garden. She is currently experimenting with photography and combining her pictures with written verse.
Though she is generally behind the scenes, she is seeking to step out of her comfort zone. She has done this in agreeing to be interviewed for this article, by functioning in prayer and by working as a greeter on Sunday mornings.
When asked about the biggest way God has made himself known in her life, Sharon said “It was learning that life with Jesus was a relationship, not a religion.” She describes having felt a protective angel for her whole life, but when she came to know Jesus, she realized that it was him trying to reach out to her the whole time.
She also shares her life verses, Psalm 51:10 and Romans chapter 12 as she seeks to be transformed and made clean by God.
Make sure that you take a little time to say “hi” when you see Sharon on a Sunday. Help us show our appreciation for all that she is as she steps out from behind the scenes!
