This Sunday we have the privilege to bless and pray for Roy and Jeannette Edwards as they set out to follow God’s calling into the mission field in China.
The Edwards will be partnering with LDi (Leadership Development international) as they head overseas. They will be working with International Schools of China (ISC) in a Christian-based private school in Wuxi, China. Roy will be involved in IT for the school and developing a youth choral program. Jeannette will be a German language teacher.
However opposed the Communist Chinese government was to Christians in the past, in this particular region God has made inroads for ISC. In recent years the government has realized the effectiveness of Western education and benefits of Christian moral teaching. It is in this way the Edwards will be able integrate with the Chinese, Korean, and international students, touch their lives, transcend cultural barriers, speak the language of love, and bless a people in need of Christ.
As we pray for Roy and Jeannette, please consider partnering with them relationally, financially, and prayerfully. As they settle in they have lots to do, and lots of needs; moving takes a toll on them, their kids here stateside, and the numerous financial costs. Please feel free to contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org (they will have a guest room in Wuxi, visitors welcome, wink-wink). Also feel free to contact our missions pastor, Julie Sandeen, who is their communications and finance coordinator here in the states.
LDiGlobal/ISC has found favor in the eyes of the Chinese government. They built a brand new school and have invited ISC to bring western education systems despite their religious affiliations. In a big sense Jeannette and Roy will be espousing the motto of LDiGlobal, as they will be “Hiding in plain sight.”
We love this opportunity to partner with this family; the very nature of the Gospel is one of transformation. Jesus came to bring the truth, the truth that would change the lives of all who believe. God transforms us so that we can transform others, and few callings exude this such as being called to the mission field.
Married for 31 years, and a part of our Sanctuary family for the last decade, Jeannette and Roy are no strangers to missions. They spent 12 years abroad (1976-1988) as a part of YWAM in Germany. The Edwards also led our Mexico Missions trips for 6 years.
In addition to their hearts for missions, they have participated in numerous ministries here, including CHAMPS, Boy Scouts, UTURN and Worship Arts. In their time partnering in our local community, they have been invaluable to the Body of Christ in Santa Clarita. Though we will miss them, we look forward to God’s leading them into this next season!
