FAMILY
Christmas is just a few short days away. I have been bombarded with 20% off, 40% off and FREE coupons from every angle and source and catalog known to man. And...I have taken advantage of all of them! Just the other day I needed to be at a store between 8:00 and 8:03pm to get my discount. I got there at 8:04. Oh well. Maybe you have had a similar experience. Well, the one time I would encourage you not to be late on this season is time with your family. During this season when life is telling you to rush go against the grain and slow down, spend time with those that are important to you. There is no coupon large enough to sacrifice that time. Have a Merry Christmas!

FAIRNESS

Fairness  Characteristic #4

Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly

2 Timothy 2:5  And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules.

Proverbs 23:19  My child, listen and be wise: Keep your heart on the right course.

Proverbs 23:12  Commit yourself to instruction;  listen carefully to words of knowledge.

Isaiah 58:7  Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

Luke 3:11  John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”

2 Corinthians 9:8  And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

2 Corinthians 9:9  As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”

THANKFUL FOR THANKSGIVING

This past Thursday, Thanksgiving day, my family and I had an amazing opportunity to serve our city by participating in a Community Thanksgiving Feast.

This year our traditional family plans were going to be different so we checked around our city to see if there was some place we could serve feeding others who were in need of food.  We found out through the Hunger Defense Fund that Newhall Bicycle does an annual Community Feast and we could sign up there.  So...we did along with some other Sanctuarians!

It was so great to see so many people, from so many parts of the Santa Clarita Valley come together, by donating food or their time to serve or both.  It did not matter if you were from a church or a buisness or just a good samaritan wanting to be kind to others.  We were all there with one purpose and vision.

The Signal reported that unofficially, 300 people were served.  I'm not good at looking at crowds and guessing the numbers, but I do know this, there were a lot of people fed.  Probably the most amazing thing to me was there were so many people there to serve, it was hard to find a task/job to do.  No one directed you, telling you what to do, you just jumped in and served!  It was awesome!

Here are some pictures from the day.

Clothes were given away, in a come and shop, get what you need kind of way, and some kids made pilgrim hats for the kids to wear. Others carried plates of those being served to their table and some kids walked around with rolls and desserts to serve.

It was an honor and priviledge to part of something bigger than me.  I will continue to look for these type of opportunities in the days, weeks and months to come.  I hope you will too!
