This past Thursday, Thanksgiving day, my family and I had an amazing opportunity to serve our city by participating in a Community Thanksgiving Feast.
This year our traditional family plans were going to be different so we checked around our city to see if there was some place we could serve feeding others who were in need of food. We found out through the Hunger Defense Fund that Newhall Bicycle does an annual Community Feast and we could sign up there. So...we did along with some other Sanctuarians!
It was so great to see so many people, from so many parts of the Santa Clarita Valley come together, by donating food or their time to serve or both. It did not matter if you were from a church or a buisness or just a good samaritan wanting to be kind to others. We were all there with one purpose and vision.
The Signal reported that unofficially, 300 people were served. I'm not good at looking at crowds and guessing the numbers, but I do know this, there were a lot of people fed. Probably the most amazing thing to me was there were so many people there to serve, it was hard to find a task/job to do. No one directed you, telling you what to do, you just jumped in and served! It was awesome!
Here are some pictures from the day.

Clothes were given away, in a come and shop, get what you need kind of way, and some kids made pilgrim hats for the kids to wear. Others carried plates of those being served to their table and some kids walked around with rolls and desserts to serve.
It was an honor and priviledge to part of something bigger than me. I will continue to look for these type of opportunities in the days, weeks and months to come. I hope you will too!
